"See Something, Say Something" Crowdsourced Enforcement of Spectrum Policies
نویسندگان
چکیده
As sharing agreements are being ratified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for various spectrum bands for commercial broadband use, it also opens up an equally challenging problem of enforcing these policies. The efficacy of an enforcement system greatly depends on the accuracy of evidential information and the speed of adjudication. The inherent unguided and unbounded nature of radio wave propagation, allows spectrum infractions to cause widespread damage and makes it hard to locate at the same time. On the other hand, it also lends itself to distributed methods for efficient enforcement of spectrum etiquette. We leverage omnipresent mobile users to implement a paradigm of “eye-witness” for detecting violations of spectrum policies. We design and analyze the crowdsourced enforcement architecture and show three main results: 1) It detects an infraction with a consistent high degree of accuracy (> 90%), 2) It is able to accurately locate the source of infraction and 3) lowers the frequency of policy infractions over time.

The Missing Moral Dimension
Many areas of our social fabric today are fashioned by policies which are largely materially efficient and technically sound. These sectors can be as diverse as economic growth and technopreneurship as well as health and education. Despite the characteristic progress that we see or are expected to see with such policies, there is however, for me, an uneasy feeling that something is missing, som...
متن کاملRewriting-Based Enforcement of Noninterference in Programs with Observable Intermediate Values
Program rewriting is defined as transforming a given program into one satisfying some intended properties. This technique has recently been suggested as a means for enforcing security policies. In this paper, we propose rewriting mechanisms based on program dependence graphs to enforce noninterference in programs with observable intermediate values. We first formulate progress-insensitive and p...

متن کاملIs phonology different? Untangling a discrepancy in the “simplicity hypothesis”
[a] If not exactly “right”, work like McWhorter (2001a) touches upon something noteworthy. [b] Even if we only go so far as to say creoles are “locally simple” (Plag 2008:117), we’re still dealing with something pretty important. [c] Even if we weaken the claim further to limit it to “canonical” creoles, it’s still something to take note of. [2]The current state of the evidence suggests, in fac...
